ELSTERNWICK HOUSE

Elsternwick House is a perfect example of when a project starts as one thing and ends up becoming something much more. Originally, the client’s intention was to change a few windows and add some furniture. But after our initial meeting, and a spark of inspiration, we developed some concepts to bring cohesion and establish a sense of mood to the existing space. We took some cues from the clients’ artwork to develop a rich colour palette which was repeated throughout the interior. The original period features have been retained in white, creating a charming juxtaposition with the new contemporary joinery and pops of colour.

By adding custom built-in joinery to the entry hall, sitting room, home office and living room, the finished result not only provides much-needed storage for this busy family of five, but also helps to give the spaces a purpose and a focal point. The existing bathroom and powder room were also renovated, existing timber floor sanded and lightened, new window furnishings and skylights added, and the façade got a new exterior colour scheme.
