ELSTERNWICK HOUSE 02

The brief for this double-fronted Edwardian home in Elsternwick was to update and breath new life into the interior, whilst keeping things within the existing floor plan. This was the second time the house had undergone a renovated by the owners using the same builder. Other than taking some space from one of the bedrooms to create a larger bedroom adjacent and using the remaining space to create a purpose-built study, the floorplan was untouched.

The full-scale renovation has brought warmth, cohesion, and function to this much-loved family home. With high ceilings and good proportioned spaces, the house had strong bones—but it was ready to be updated and modernised for the next chapter. The addition custom built-in joinery with fireplace has added a much needed anchor in the main living space.

A key focus was creating an earthy, warm, inviting interior, and timber became a central material in achieving this. Rich, natural tones contrast with bright white walls throughout the home, complemented by extensive built-in cabinetry that provides smart, seamless storage while enhancing the home’s architectural rhythm. Every room now feels connected, visually and practically, through a consistent design language that celebrates warmth, simplicity, and good flow.
